Who You’ll be Working With

John has 30 years international geosciences and engineering project management experience ranging from oil exploration to water resource management and water treatment. He is a Chartered Engineer and formed Carbon Zero Consulting in 2007. His mix of engineering and borehole expertise are suited not only to water resource management but also design aspects of large Ground-Source Heating projects which require high quality, independent advice on hydrogeology, engineering, water quality and legislative issues.

James’ career as an international consultant spans over 20 years. He is a Chartered Geologist and Hydrogeologist specialising in water resources and mining / quarrying solutions and has had close involvement with thermogeology and legislative input to many of the UK’s larger open-loop schemes. James regularly presents key papers at UK and international conferences and is actively involved in the running of professional and special interest organisations.
Phil worked for 5 years in Scientific Research at the University of Utrecht, on a research project funded by the Dutch Scientific Organisation and assisted in university-level lecturing and training courses. After his return to the UK, Phil has worked as a Hydrogeologist on many large-scale projects including land remediation. He has since joined Carbon Zero Consulting specialising in ground source heating project management, assessment and modelling. Phil leads our Northern office.
Dave trained as a hydrogeologist and now has over 22 years professional experience from all sectors: consultancy, research, public and academia. It was also while in Norway that Dave first became interested in ground source heating and cooling. Like many converts to this cause, Dave was at first disbelieving and it took several months to convince him that heat pumps really did work! On his return to the UK in 1998, Dave took up the challenge of persuading Britons that ground source heating and cooling could also be of relevance to their chilly island. The majority of Dave’s work at present involves some form of thermogeological consultancy and training.
Dave has attempted to place the nascent earth science of thermogeology on a rigorous, documented footing via his new book "An Introduction to Thermogeology: Ground Source Heating and Cooling", published by Wiley in 2008.
Simon is a geochemist with over eleven years experience of consulting covering all aspects of contaminated land investigation and remediation, waste management, environment impact assessment, flood risk assessment as well as implementation of GIS packages. Simon has a key role in managing land quality assessments and design for ground source heating and cooling projects, as well as water supply boreholes.
