2012 Drought
Posted by Carbon Zero Consulting on 20/0212 at 07:15 PM
Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman announced today that much of southern and eastern England is officially in a state of drought…..and more areas are likely to be affected as we continue to experience a prolonged period of very low rainfall.
In parts of England, groundwater levels are lower than in the infamously dry summer of 1976. This drought has ‘crept up on us’ compared to the drought years of 1976 or 1995. We haven’t experienced the long hot, dry summers of those years - mores the pity! Instead we’ve had 2 years of very low rainfall, especially in winter and spring when recharge of reservoirs and groundwater normally takes place. River, reservoir and groundwater levels should be nearing their peak now. This is far from the truth in many areas – for instance our local reservoir, Rutland Water, is at least 20% lower than it should be.
If you think the drought conditions could affect your business then please give us a call to see how we might help with alternative water supplies, water saving, water re-use and storage systems. Call John on 0797 6263441.
FIT or Farce?
Posted by Carbon Zero Consulting on 02/0212 at 09:50 PM
The ongoing saga over the fate of FITs would be funny if it wasn't so serious in terms of the loss of confidence it is causing in the renewable sector as a whole.
The government seems hell-bent on causing as much confusion as possible.
Hopefully things are now being sorted out -although we are left with another gold rush period; PV installed before March 3rd will attact the 43p tariff - Unless DECC appeal again!!
If the Government had won its Appeal in January, a precedent would have been set to allow the retrospective policy changes in future, such as reducing payments to renewable energy producers after they had commissioned their systems. This would spell disaster for an already shaky and formative industry.
Carbon Zero Consultings says ''Sort out FITs once and for all and get a move on with confirming domestic RHI tariffs''!
